Physiotherapy assesses and treats musculoskeletal injury with the goal of restoring and maintaining as much physical ability as possible. Our physiotherapy services involve the assessment and treatment of your musculoskeletal injury in order to improve and maintain your functional level and physical abilities.

Physiotherapists at Citadel Physiotherapy in Halifax and Dartmouth are trained to provide an initial assessment and diagnosis and will develop a treatment plan specific to the client’s injury that is exercise-based and hands-on.

Our Physiotherapists utilize various treatment techniques while treating their clients. These include manual therapy, mobilization, and manipulations, acupuncture, electrical modalities such as ultrasound, light therapy, Interferential Current Therapy, TENS, shockwave therapy. Exercise and injury-specific education are also utilized extensively.

Born in Halifax and raised in Fall River, Dr. Alex attended Acadia University where he graduated in 2017 with a Bsc. Kinesiology. This is where he found his passion for helping others move better, perform better, and get the the most out of their life! This led Dr. Alex to take his studies south of the border where he attended the New York Chiropractic College, of which he graduated in December of 2021.

Dr. Alex is a certified strength & conditioning specialist and during his time at Acadia worked alongside multiple varsity teams and local athletes in the Annapolis Valley. Through his education and clinical experience Dr. Alex has been able to work with patients of all ages, abilities, limitations, and underlying health conditions. Dr. Alex has extensive knowledge in anatomy, neurology, nutrition, biomechanics, movement assessment, exercise programming and rehabilitation. Matt completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2013 at Dalhousie University. During that time, he also worked with both Women’s Rugby and Men’s Hockey Varsity programs at Saint Mary’s University as a student trainer. As well he was as a research assistant at Dalhousie University. The focus of the research was on the effects of osteoarthritis on the hips and knees, and how osteoarthritis affects an individuals’ mobility and gait. These experiences led him back to Dalhousie University to complete his Master of Science in Physiotherapy in 2016.

He has continued his training with post-grad courses in Manual and Manipulation Therapy, Functional Dry Needling, Shockwave Therapy, and Osteoarthritis Management and Rehabilitation. He uses these skills to help people recover after joint surgery, workplace injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and in managing osteoarthritis.

During a patient’s assessment and treatments, their goals are discussed and addressed step by step. Treatment progress is based on the individual’s needs, and will include a mix of rehabilitation exercises, hands-on therapy, and other methods as needed.

Jenn graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 2004 after completing her BSc in Chemistry from Saint Mary’s University. She spent 13 years in private practice before working with the military.

Jenn’s treatment approach involves compassionately listening to her clients concerns and developing a treatment plan to provide fast relief of pain and improved function while addressing the cause of the issue to prevent recurrences. Jenn has completed extensive postgraduate courses in manual therapy, taping, exercise prescription, acupuncture, dry needling, instrumented assisted soft tissue release, concussion rehab, vestibular treatment, personal training, bracing and golf related injuries. She has provided physiotherapy for various sporting events including CBU basketball games and the Cape Breton Celtic Classic, a PGA Tour event.

In her spare time Jenn enjoys hiking, mountain biking, golfing, down hill skiing and live music.

Giselle graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St F.X. in 1997 followed by a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University’s School of Physiotherapy in 2001. She has spent the last 20 years working in private practice in Dartmouth managing a varied caseload including pre and post operative rehab, acute and chronic sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries, concussion management, work place and motor vehicle accident injuries.

Throughout her career, Giselle has continued to source out post graduate education in areas of interest to her, and pertaining to her clients. This has include courses in Manual Therapy, Acupuncture, Dry Needling, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Pain Science, Concussion Management, Exercise Prescription and Sport First Responder Certification.
